In a surprising admission, the Washington Post has conceded that President-elect Donald Trump has “already conquered” Washington, D.C., even before his Inauguration Day.
The report, authored by Marianne LeVine, Clara Ence Morse, and Aaron Schaffer, paints a picture of Trump’s triumphant return to the capital, marking a stark contrast to his contentious first term, Breitbart News reported.
The Post acknowledges that Trump’s legal challenges are now behind him, with corporate executives flocking to Mar-a-Lago for meetings. His inaugural committee has raised record sums for Monday’s ceremony, and the Republican Party is firmly under his control.
This portrayal stands in sharp contrast to Trump’s divisive entry in 2017 and his tumultuous departure in 2021.
According to the report, many of Trump’s Cabinet picks appear poised for smooth confirmation by the Republican-controlled Senate, including his controversial choice for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth.
The President-elect is expected to sign numerous executive orders upon taking office, particularly focusing on border security, a central issue of his campaign.
The Post notes that Trump is now personally closer to his proposed Cabinet and other top aides compared to eight years ago.
He’s also enjoying some of the highest favorability ratings of his political career, with a recent CNN poll showing his approval at 48%, up from 39% just last year.Days before taking office, Trump can claim partial credit for a significant diplomatic achievement, with Israel and Hamas agreeing to a ceasefire and hostage release deal.
This development adds to his growing political momentum as he prepares to return to the White House.
The incoming administration’s strength is further highlighted by the apparent demoralization of the Biden White House. NBC News reports that President Biden feels “totally dejected,” reflecting the broader state of the Democratic Party, which appears uncertain about how to respond to Trump’s political resurgence.
Senate Democrats may attempt to delay Trump’s Cabinet confirmations, but with strong Republican leadership, these efforts are expected to be futile. The party seems bewildered, struggling to mount an effective resistance to Trump’s return to power.
However, the Post’s report fails to mention the significant obstacles Trump overcame to achieve what many consider the greatest political comeback in American history. It omits how Trump defeated political opponents who attempted to imprison him, bankrupt him, remove him from the ballot, and make him politically irrelevant through a partisan committee investigating January 6.
The report also neglects to mention the two assassination attempts Trump survived.
